The Car
The Right Combination
Selecting our very first handover was a painstaking decision, but we could not have found a better choice than the 987.2 Porsche Boxster.
This example from 2009 is painted in Basalt Black Metallic and finished with a tan interior. Equipped with a mid mounted, 2.9L flat six paired to a six speed manual transmission, this vehicle has aged like a fine wine.
Hydraulic steering aids in driver feedback. As do the timeless physical controls and analog gauges mounted directly in front of the driver’s sight. The left-mounted ignition barrel awaits a physical key. Push it in, step on the clutch, and turn it over. The engine comes to life in the silky smooth way that only a Porsche flat six can.
This vehicle has exceptionally low mileage for its age, at only 39,000 miles and is in excellent working order. The convertible top operates perfectly, sealing you from inclement weather, but the Boxster is a car you want to keep the top down (trust us). We can’t wait to find its next owner through our selection process.
The Sweet Spot
The 987.2 Boxster is the mid-cycle refresh of the 987 Boxster generation. Made from 2009 to 2012, the manual transmission option is exceedingly rare to find. Only 750 were made as Porsche was promoting and building their PDK transmission, which was novel for the time.
The 987.2 features the upgrades commonly associated with the Porsche 997.2. This means the engine does not have the infamous IMS bearing issue, and is generally reliable when cared for. It is part of the last true analog Porsche models, and they are very difficult to locate in such great condition with no modifications.
Sharing Production and Greatness
One of the best kept secrets inside the Porsche universe is that the Boxster platform shares a broad amount of componentry with its 911 big brothers. This 987.2 Boxster has the entire front end of a 997.2 Carrera, a highly sought after generation due to its analog feel and modern reliability.
This means the Boxster has unbelievable levels of steering feel from its hydraulic rack, a linear and powerful flat six, and remarkably composed handling dynamics due to the mid mounted engine. This car is incredibly neutral at or near its limit, never causing severe or unexpected rear end breakaways.
A Modern Classic
There’s no doubt in our mind that time will be kind to the 987.2 Porsche Boxster. With classic proportions, a timeless interior, and a naturally aspirated engine: this was a high water mark for Porsche.
The next steward of this car can enjoy it for years to come. It will be a worry free experience as it is ready to drive and needs virtually nothing other than regular oil changes and filling up the gas tank. With its mid-mounted configuration, low curb weight, and analog feel it will provide its new steward with an incredibly rewarding ownership experience.
